Putting It In Perspective
This series of street images situates Oakland Faith within the broader cultural and social fabric of the city. Moving through Oakland without a fixed agenda, I register fragments of everyday life.
Oakland is a city of approximately 450,000 residents and an unusually dense network of places of worship, with over 460 identified sites across its neighborhoods. This coexistence between daily life and organized systems of meaning shapes the context in which Oakland Faith operates.
Together, the street photographs and Oakland Faith form a broader inquiry into how a city holds both structure and fragmentation. If places of worship represent formalized systems of belief, the street suggests something more fluid: a space where identity, community, and meaning are continuously negotiated, often without clear resolution.
