Fiji Lithographs

Created in Fiji as a very limited series, these lithographs explore the tension between the abundance of the natural world and the traces of mortality embedded within it. Dense tropical vegetation shifts between concealment and revelation: a door emerges unexpectedly from the forest, light breaks through an almost impenetrable canopy, and an animal skull becomes both artifact and apparition.

The works bring contemporary photographic imagery into dialogue with one of the oldest forms of printmaking. Produced by hand on an old manual lithographic press, they translate digital photographs through a deliberately slow, physical process of ink, pressure, paper, and human intervention. The imperfections of the process (deep blacks, grain, softened detail, and unpredictable tonal shifts) become part of the images themselves, merging contemporary image-making with an older material tradition.

The skull appears twice, first disrupted by a field of red and then reduced to monochrome, shifting the same image between warning, memory, and contemplation.

Made in a place where growth, decay, beauty, and impermanence are continuously intertwined, the series considers nature not simply as landscape, but as a cycle in which presence and disappearance coexist, and where old and new ways of making images meet.
