During a month-long residency in Taohuatan (Anhui province, China), I worked alongside artists from across the world, moving between studio practice and guided encounters with the region’s landscapes and communities. The experience unfolded as a study in transitions—between rural and urban space, tradition and acceleration, observation and intervention. The resulting photographic series, later exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum in Hefei, reflects this movement.
In the work, small interventions are introduced to gently fracture the assumption of neutrality in documentary photography. These interventions act as points of friction, inviting viewers to question what is natural and what is constructed.
The series explores how places are not fixed identities but evolving negotiations between memory and aspiration.
