Americana’ stages individuals in positions that are meant to provoke conversation; the extremes that the images display represents the extremes that America finds itself in today. They speak to the lack of community and conversation, polarization, urban isolation, fear for one’s freedom and, ultimately, the loss of identity that drives all other outcomes. Even the title of ‘Americana’ is a play on words with the idealized image of the 60’s, contrasting the perfect white, affluent, seemingly ideal way of life. But, as we experience every day, the dream was shattered.
